Did you know that most of the grass-fed beef sold in America is actually imported from Australia and New Zealand? It's also sourced from places like Mexico, Nicaragua, Brazil, and Uruguay. This is because in these places it's actually cheaper to feed the cow grass its entire life (grass-fed/ grass-finished). On the other hand, in the United States the beef market is predominately for grain finished animals. Resulting in very few ranches that grass-finish their beef. In the USA only 3% of ranches are grass-fed/ grass-finished. In Australia nearly 70% of all cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished and many of the cattle operations are massive!
In the US, if you're looking for pure grass-fed/ grass-finished beef your best bet is to know a rancher. Even though the demand is slowly growing, It's hard to come by pure grass-fed beef in the United States.
