Martye and I walked the oak savanna last weekend. We spotted several stands of native grasses that have come up from the seeds we broadcasted over the past several years. This grass looks to be a Little Blue Stem which is one of the five major grasses of the prairie ecosystem. Unfortunately, the oak savanna is covered with Broomweed (the yellow flowering plants). Broomweed is a good indicator that the land is stressed. It's not a surprise with the severe drought that we have been facing.
